Starbucks just produced a series of cups even the most devoted fans of the holiday can be happy with. And of course, a number of Trump supporters immediately attributed this "victory" in the "War on Christmas" to Starbucks' perceived fear of retribution from Trump's Twitter account.
I see no reason to believe there is any connection here.
If anyone really thinks, Starbucks is making cups with a particular design in fear of Trump, you've drank WAAAAY too much Trump Kool-Aid, and might consider switching to coffee.
First off, the whole controversy over the cups was idiotic.
Second, secular people who don't celebrate Christmas, and who largely live in secular enclaves with other people who don't celebrate Christmas, are perfectly entitled to wish whatever holiday they want or none at all. That doesn't make any Christians actually persecuted. Yes, these same people often aren't respectful of anyone's religious traditions, but then again, if you want respect for religious tradition, you are not entitled to get it from Starbucks. Open up your own successful coffee chain and drive Starbucks out of business. THat's how you win culture wars.
And finally:
Starbucks can't careless about Trump or anything else. They care about financial value, same as NFL. NFL did not change its rules in response to Trump. The kneeling phenomenon may or may not pass, depending on whether NFL perceives it as a signfiicant enough financial hit - and no amount of tweeting will change that. And I guarantee you, those people who are regular consumers of Starbucks, don't care what it has on the cups. And won't change their behavior. Starbucks may be doing so to expand its basis, but not because it's expecting to actually lose customers if Trump says something mean on twitter.
